Patchwork Quilt Workshop

Quilting and patchwork is all the rage at the moment so why not make use of that fabric stash and join us at The Craft Studio for this new 6 Week class. You will learn how to use all the tools of the trade aswell as getting to grips with all those ‘ quilting terms’ and measurements that can seem so daunting.

Once you are familiar with your equipment, you will  learn how to design a ‘  disappearing 9-patch’ This sounds and looks intricate and impressive, but is very easy and quick to make and so a perfect beginners quilt.

Once you have completed your quilt top you will be shown how to add wadding,  a backing and bias binding to your finished creation.

This is a beginners’ patchwork quilt making course, but in order to follow the instructions, you MUST know how to use a sewing machine confidently and unaided. You will also need to be comfortable with a needle and thread in your hand! The quilt will require  both machine sewing and hand sewing throughout.

During the course you can choose to either machine or hand quilt. The tutor will advise and show examples relating to this.

The size of the quilt you will be making will measure 48.5″ (123cm) x 64″ (161cm) which is large enough for a child or a very generous lap quilt.

If you feel that you need a short refresher before undertaking this course, take a look at our Sewing Taster sessions .

I really enjoyed this course! Although I know how to sew I found this class really useful, explaining all the basics of patchwork…something I’d never done previously! Karen was lovely, explaining everything from preparing your fabric, to cutting and constructing your quilt! Would highly recommend this workshop for anyone wanting to learn the basics of quilt making!

I really enjoyed my time on this course, Karen was really helpful and nice.
I would recommend you do homework to finish your squares at home or you wont have time to put the backing on, I did feel this should have been a 6 week course to be able finish the quilt in the time given.

Just finished the 5 week Patchwork quilt course. It is a great way to relax after a days work and sew together with other crafters. Karen was very helpful and you get coffee/tea and biscuits. Am looking forwards to an intermediate quilting course!

You HAVE to do this course! It really was a fantastic way to spend our Thursday evenings, Karen is very knowledgeable, approachable and managed to find a way to guide us through all of our many questions!

The process is broken down step by step so even a complete novice (like myself!) could follow and produce a fabulous quilt! It was so nice to meet some lovely ladies and I’m looking forward to our Christmas Catch-up! Enjoyed it so much I’m now booked onto my THIRD workshop with Clare at ‘The Craft Studio’! Can’t wait!

I can’t put in to words how much I have enjoyed this course. I have not just come away with a quilt, but skills for life. Karen is very knowledgeable and very patient. This course has given me the confidence to start a charity quilt in aid of Barnardos with my work colleagues.
