So, we’re back to blogging! We can’t believe it’s been two years since Clare last blogged, but to be fair she has had lots going on. We are now in our third year at Derby Rd and there is no sign of things slowing down. The workshops have been super busy and we are also now a well established fabric supplier too . In addition to all of this little Henry was born in June 2014, and has since become Chief Fabric Chooser when the rep visits — check out the Facebook page for some super cute photo evidence. It does mean that Clare has less time to write these days though, so I will be updating you on the day-to-day happenings in the shop along with my colleague Rachel. My name is Menekse and I work mornings and Saturdays in the shop — we’ll all be introducing ourselves more thoroughly in the next couple of months via the blog.
January is a very exciting month at The Craft Studio, with a couple of new classes starting as well as lots of new fabrics arriving.
Karen, our lovely Patchwork and Quilting tutor, will be leading a new class called Sewing for the Home, which runs over six weeks from Thursday 7th January. Karen will be teaching the class how to make a roman blind, a pencil pleat curtain, a zipped and piped cushion, and a lampshade. This is a new class for the new year, so we’re looking forward to seeing everybody’s finished pieces as the weeks go by.
Given the immense popularity of the free machine embroidery classes, Clare will be running a 4-week Creative Sewing course, which ensures you have a confident grounding in the techniques of applique and free machinery before moving on to create more intricate pieces that develop and reflect your personal style. This starts on Tuesday 12th January, and there are still spaces available if you are interested in booking onto the course.
It also sees the return of the Beginner’s Felt Making Taster Session on Saturday 30th January, which took a hiatus last year and is now fully booked! Clare will be introducing seven people to the joys of making felt using a traditional wet felting technique and pure wool in a rainbow of colours. We’ve seen samples (some of which have been finished using free machine embroidery — a technique that can be learnt at our most popular workshop) and they are really stunning.
We are extremely excited to be getting the full range of colours in the new “Twist” range from Dashwood Studio, which is a beautiful blend — it coordinates perfectly with so many of our favourite fabrics, we can’t wait to use it in our quilt-making class for starters! We’re also getting a few other fabrics from Dashwood including designs from the Mori range, Nature Trail, and Secret Garden. We’ll be blogging about those in more detail next week.
Clare is particularly excited about the Viking fabric we’re getting in from Michael Miller — we think Henry will be getting some new trousers as soon as it arrives! We’ve also got some new blends arriving from Michael Miller, and a gorgeous range called “Sommer” which features bold floral prints in vibrant colours with cute little rabbits dotted throughout.
We’re getting a few of the Robert Kaufman Fabulous Foxes fabrics in this month as well, with some lovely options in more masculine and gender neutral colours, as well as a lovely pink one that would look gorgeous as a girl’s pinafore dress.
We are also preparing for an exclusive sale event, more details to follow on that!
We’ll be back soon with more news from the shop.
